Quiet Home

Things have settled a bit now that Danny has been home for a bit and my mother in law is back in Myrtle Beach. The past 2 days have been very quiet and wonderful. Danny is focusing on the upcoming wrestling season and has begun working out with the help of coach Chris. I am grateful, thank you God! Danny has a lot of energy and anxiety to burn and Chris does a great job at working him until he can't do another thing.

The summer is winding down and school starts Monday. September is always busy. Church programs start up again (youth group and teen bible study), I am doing Alpha again and can't wait! I am going to invite my mother to go with me. Ma is on the fence about the whole "God thing" and she seems to be interested only when she is in some kind of emotional pain (always brought on by one of her kids). I would ask all of the "praying ladies" who read my blog to pray for my Ma and her decision to attend the Alpha Course with me, I would sure appreciate it.

I will also be attending a woman's bible study on Tuesday mornings for the next 30 weeks. Gosh, I LOVE to learn.

I have a couple new pieces on my bench that are half way finished. Hopefully I will list them in the shop early next week. I have been tempted to incorporate some stones into the chains of my necklaces. I love the way complimentary stones really make the center stone come alive, but I don't like crazy mixtures that are too busy. I really like simplicity (as you can probably tell). I don't mind large, but large and simple.

It is raining like crazy and we are due to get much more. Chris is kayaking today. I am not sure where he is going, but he's going. I have a busy day ahead of me and it is already 8:15!!

wa----saaaaaaap!

That's another little jewel that bugs the snot out of me WA-----SAAAAAAP. Remember when that was the "thing" to say? I am glad it's fazed out a bit. Anyway, my bench of FULL of stones and settings I will continue to work on today. I am not showing half finished work any longer so I don't have a picture. I have many orders to ship this morning after Will's appointment with the orthopedic surgeon. Oh yeah, I didn't tell you, Will broke his left elbow skateboarding last week. This is the 3rd bone he has broken in 2 years. I gotta put that boy in a bubble!! Skateboarding fiend! I will also have to push my workout until after his appt. oh dear, it's going to be a scrambled morning.

I was thinking I really had nothing to blog about today so I thought I should randomly have a PJ segment, no matter how horrifying it is, so expect random PJ pics. Here is a few minutes ago.....

Sorry about the quality, it's still a bit dark outdoors and the flash was off.

Also, the Chilled Cucumber Soup recipe. It is purrrrrfect of hot summer days!! Yummers :)

1 large cucumber

1/2c red onion

3 tbsp fresh dill, chopped

1 tbsp fresh mint, chopped

1 1/4c nonfat plain yogurt

1/4 tsp salt

1/8 tsp black pepper

1/16 tsp cayenne pepper

1/4 tsp celery seed

Combine all ingredients and puree. Chill.

Late but lookin' good!

The harvest that is.........

Chris and I are stocking up on Ball jars, canning time is very near. I believe we are going to make pickles as well.

Yesterday was INSANITY. Grocery shopping & school shopping in the same day, we are not very bright. Danny has been home for less than a week and I am filled with anxiety because I am not accustomed to his constant defiance. I handle it very well, but he has been gone all summer so those strongholds are let down and I now I am having a real hard time getting myself back to accepting Danny for exactly who he is right this minute. I have no choice. I don't accept his behaviour, but if I am going to live in the same home with him, I must have this acceptance. Last night when we arrived home from shopping, I was just about over the edge with him. I sent both boys to their rooms and proceeded to unpack the groceries with Chris and Allisun. Danny came down and told me he was not going anywhere when I told him to go back upstairs. This is normal Danny behaviour, absolute defiance. Normally I can shrug this off and walk away and simply consequence the behaviour. Not last night. I went out on the back deck and sobbed for what seemed like hours. I sobbed and begged God for help because it is SO INCREDIBLY HARD living with my son. I know God won't give me more than I can handle but dang it, this is really close. Like I said, I can normally handle all of this with impressive calm. I did not mean to get on a tangent about my frustrations with Danny, I was just trying to tell you about my weekend.

This morning we all went to Trinity and it was terrific. There were people from the
Teen Challenge program http://www.teenchallengeusa.com/ giving testimony and it was a wonderful experience for all of us. I took a little nap after church, then I began making the soups, sauces, and coleslaw for the week. I need to get working on supper in just a minute. We made cold cucumber soup and it is PERFECT for these hot summer days. I'll post the recipe sometime this week, maybe tomorrow.

Okay, I'm going to go. I'm grouchy and Chris is bugging me. He's not doing anything wrong, I am just in that rare mood when I look at him and would love to just slap him. ya know what I mean? Poor guy.

She makes me happy

Family News ~
Danny and Alisun (MIL) arrived safely and on time yesterday. I made turkey breast, brown rice, broccoli, zucchini, and vegetable soup for supper. Danny took off with his buddies and spent the night at Brian's house. Will hung out with the family. Chris went to bed early being incredibly sweet is hard work ya know, and I was still cooking late into the night (not that late, 10:30pm) for our breakfast and lunch today, then I was off to bed after a bit of Etsy and herbal tea. I have been setting stones, taking pics, and listing jewelry all afternoon. We are all going to my Ma's tonight for a visit.
Later Taters!

MIL and Danny Boy are coming to New Hampshire today!

Good morning friends (yawn)

I am having my morning coffee with my blog instead of my bible, hmmmm. Anyway, my strapping handsome (why do they say "strapping" when referring to handsome? I say it but I don't really know what it means) son Danny and my gorgeous Southern Mother In Law, Alisun are flying into Manchester airport at 3:41PM today. I dropped Danny off in Myrtle Beach June 25 (I think) so I miss him terribly. My MIL will be staying for 10 days. She is incredibly helpful when she comes up here to visit. She comes every year at the end of August for 10-16 days and for that time the laundry is finished and put away and dishes are washed in a minute of hitting the sink. I am VERY neat by nature, but it is fun to have someone be a mom while staying under my roof.

Studio News.....

I am working on a small line of rings that may become regularly relisted items in my shop (if they sell well). Currently they are covered in pickle waiting to be loved. I am also almost ready to set 2 humungo stones that will steal your breath away. One is the most incredible piece of gaspeite I've seen to date, the other is a rich baby pink oyster shell, and I almost forgot I made another ring that is sweet as sweet can be, I have a feeling it won't last long on my shelves. I also have a custom ring ready to set. Hopefully I will list these tomorrow. My next undertaking after finishing the rings and my long list of orders will be MORE TURQUOISE EARRINGS to include funky vined studs and my "ear bob" style. If only I could clone myself.......

Husband News....

I need to dote on him for just a minute. After getting up at 4AM, working out, making his breakfast, working all day, going on an estimate after work, coming home to eat and shower, running to a church meeting, coming home and joining me in bed, hot as Hades, I receive a super duper head rub while I fall asleep. AND, this is the impressive part ladies..... he did it just to be sweet, he was not trying to get the old girl warmed up for a night of passion (cough). I woke up as he was leaving this morning (6:30am) and yelled out the bedroom window, "I LOVE YOU!" He said "I LOVE YOU TOO, and I made shrimp stir fry for lunch, yours is all in the fridge". I said "Oh, I need to take the turkey breast out of the freezer!!" He said, "I already did". I said, "Your the best baby"

Please.... try not to hurl.

HoT HoT HoT

It's hot outside! Chris and I have been doing chores since we arrived home from church. It's in the 90's and humid. Church was incredible today (as always) I feel God's presence there more than any church I have ever been. I cleaned the house top to bottom, washed floors,vacuumed, cleaned my car, went to the car wash to do the outside, gave LuLu a bath, I am almost finished cooking dinner, and then I need to do the bills and take a shower. An hour or so of snuggle time (or not, it's too hot to snuggle) then off to bed.
Yesterday Chris along with some other folks put a new roof on the Ministry Center for the church in Greenfield. Chris works very hard for that church. Will donated his entire day as well picking up shingles and being a "laborer". What did I do you ask? I went to the beach. There was really nothing I could have done to help with the roof. I met my Ma, dad, and grandma Virginia there. Here are a few "fly by" shots of the way to the beach......

My Favorite!!!

The photos were taken with my blackberry while going about 20 mph so please excuse the bad angles.

********************* I'm back. I walked away to eat and help Chris carry a new/used 2nd refrigerator into the basement. We needed more room for veggies and meals prepared ahead of time as well as more freezer room so we thought a second hand fridge to keep in the basement is perfect.

That's all for now! I need a shower, I am yuuuuuckY!!

What "bugs" you??

Minutes ago I was bopping around Etsy while eating breakfast and ya know what I just don't get? The mustache thing (I'm not talking about real mustaches, I have nothing against facial hair on men) quilted mustaches, mustache jewelry, mustache tote bags etc. I see a mustache on Ety's front page frequently. I-d-o-n-t-g-e-t-i-t. I think it's kind of dumb and I roll my eyes every time I see one or I see a picture someone posing holding some sort of mustache. Now, don't take offence, this "trend" is quite popular and I suspect I am a minority in being anti-mustache.
Any who another expression that bugs me, I would LOVE to hear what little quirky things bug you!
I am ALL EARS!

Gifts from North Dakota & a recipe from my kitchen to yours

A certain wonderful customer from North Dakota is always so generous with praise and kindness in every interaction I have with her. She sent me a stone to make a custom ring. Along with the stone she enclosed pasta's made IN her home town!

Will and his buddy Tucker left this morning for Cape Cod. They will be back on Friday. Hmmm, no children for a few days......

Here is the recipe for the Asparagus Soup Chris made on Sunday. It is heavenly!!!!

*The flowers are nasturtiums (edible). I grow them in my garden.

1 1/4 c onions, diced

1/2 tsp garlic, chopped

1 1/2 quarts low sodium chicken broth

1 1/2 pounds asparagus

1/2 potato, diced (we skip this because I abhor potato's)

1 dash salt

1/2 tsp yellow mustard seed

1 dash "17 spice mix" (any Mrs. Dash type mixed spice is fine)

1/2 tsp dry mustard

``````````````````````````````````````````````````````
1. Saute onions and garlic in 1/4c chicken broth.
2. Ass asparagus, potato, and remaining stock. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 15 - 20 minutes.
3. Remove soup from heat and puree with a food processor (or blender). Return to pan and season with spices.
This soup has such a silky buttery taste, you would swear it had cream or butter in it!! Enjoy!!
pig tails...
I would love to know if you think a woman of my (ahem) years is too "mature" for pig tails. I adore them, but I am beginning to question if it is time to go for a more (ahem) refined look.
please tell me I have a couple of good years left
The weekend was a good one. The 'weekend deals' sales have helped dragging weekend sales nicely. Weekends are my slowest time (weird huh) so it is a wonderful time to exercise my discount muscles and I'm always happy to do it. I did manage to stay out of the studio the whole weekend. Saturday, after my workout/shower Chris and I went over the breakfast/lunch/dinner menu for the week and did the grocery shopping. It was sweet of him to accompany me, it was a gorgeous day but it had to be done. We made supper together when we got home, watched a bit of TV and went to bed fairly early. Sunday Chris went to church and I did not. Will, Tucker and I went to the ocean for the day, it was just beautiful. I have been aching to get to the ocean for weeks, I am so glad we were able to go! Chris was busy going on estimates and making soups for the week while we were gone. He made yummy asparagus soup and roasted red pepper soup. What a great guy! I thought I would be making the soups when I arrived home. We made a great dinner and after cleaning up, pj's, herb tea, and a bit of TV we went to bed falling asleep to the movie "Private Benjamin" (great 80's flick)
I began my morning with a core workout and a shower, and here I am.
Gosh, I am dreadfully dull aren't I? Oh, well.... I really really love my life :)
What did you do this weekend??
